Nominees for the BCCI Board announced

View the nominees for the Broome Chamber of Commerce & Industry Board elections at the upcoming AGM on Thursday 22 November 2018.

** Elisabeth Lucke – Media Arm

Elisabeth Lucke is a media and marketing specialist, with an extensive background working with businesses, industry bodies and government entities across the Kimberley region. The longest standing member of the Chamber Board, she provides valuable insight into inter-organisational relationships and strategic direction.

Her history of Board membership includes peak bodies representing the advertising, arts, music , community services and education industries. Elisabeth also sits on the Boards of the Australia’s North West Expo event (currently in hiatus) and the Broome Senior High School.

She is a Justice of the Peace, a civil marriage celebrant and the first honorary life member of Broome CIRCLE, after a five year stint chairing its board.

**Gerard Petrov – Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat

Gerard brings over twenty years of experience in the small business sector.

“In 2009, I moved to Broome with his family and continued to use his expertise in the building industry including project management and development of housing projects for remote communities and regional centres. Over the past 2 years on the board, I have been instrumental in extending the reach of BCCI to the communities of the Dampier Peninsula, and believe their inclusion has helped grow the reputation of the BCCI.”

Gerard is a director of Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat in partnership with Traditional Owners, Frank Davey and Maureen Hunter from One Arm Point community. Their tourism venture, Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat provides cultural story telling and activities including the first cultural tours to the Kimberley region.

** Susan Bergersen – Nyamba Buru Yawuru

Susan is an experienced corporate executive with a strong track record in successfully leading new strategic and business improvement initiatives. She has experience in state, national and international roles in Perth, Sydney and Japan within both commercial and not-for-profit sectors, having worked in financial management, board governance and reporting, economic and workforce development, business improvement, and business strategy and planning development. Susan has worked with Indigenous organisations for the past six years including four years on implementation of mining benefit agreements and economic development in the Pilbara. Susan has held a range of directorships including as Australian Director representing overseas companies operating in the resource and mining industry. She was the inaugural Chair of the Ear Science Institute of Australia Board which she held for five years and currently a member of the Shire of Broome, Economic Development Advisory Committee. Susan also owned and operated a Management Consultancy enterprise comprising Natcon Consulting, Natcon Business Advisory Services and Management Education Australia employing a number of staff and contractors in Perth for 7 years and is experienced with the matters of operating small business.

Kim Pervan – Sheffield Resources Limited

In past positions, Kim’s role has been to clear the way to enable project or business development.  This involves implementing a process to establish understanding and then trust, with stakeholders in the external and internal environments.

“I bring strong skills in project management, budgeting, community relations, external affairs, corporate affairs, evaluation and reporting – developed across government, NFP, corporate, rural and regional work environments.  I specialise in stakeholder engagement, government and media relations and consultation with experience in variable industries.  I believe I can have a positive impact on the Broome business community and welcome the opportunity to assist and represent BCCI members.”

** Craig Kelmar – Mercure Broome

“Having worked for Accor hotels for 15 years in many different locations and hotels in Australia and have been in Broome now for 2.5 years, I know the Broome business community and its dynamics. Grew up with family owned small businesses and worked with my parents in these businesses since I was 10 years old.”

“I have enjoyed the last 2 years being part of the Chamber and feel I can continue to provide the hospitality insights and aspects to the BCCI and assist the community into the future.  Being part of the Broome community is a passion for me and assisting in the endeavours and direction of the community moving forward”

“The skills and knowledge I bring to the BCCI board include working for a large corporation such as Accor and the detail and insights they bring along with my background in small business with my parents owning small businesses on and off for 20 years. My key development occurred when working in Cairns at Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort as an Operations Manager. The GFC had a strong negative effect on Cairns as a leisure destination and to be part of a team managing a large hotel and business during these times taught him to adapt to a challenging market and developing strategies to ensure a sustainable business throughout these times”

Jael Napper – Consultant

Jael has a strong track record delivering community and business initiatives throughout her tenure as CEO of the Chamber.

“Knowing the Broome business community, dynamics, key industries and stakeholders is an advantage to getting action for Broome.  I have developed and maintained great rapport with key stakeholders and believe this is key for developing economic sustainability for our region”

With a strong background in media and corporate communication, Jael’s has extensive experience in effective communication to the wider community and key stakeholders.  Prior roles included PR and Communications consulting to high profile clients including Endemol, Dreamworld and Emmy Award winning business Hoodlum, and Publicity Manager for Network Ten’s leading reality television programs.  Jael has vast experience in event management, coordinating conferences and large scale special events.
