The building and construction industry gathered at a gala event in Broome over the weekend to recognise the best residential and commercial builders in the Kimberley-Pilbara region for their construction excellence.

Over 150 industry representatives gathered under the stars at Zanders Restaurant overlooking Cable Beach, on Saturday 16 June for the annual Master Builders-Bankwest Building Excellence Awards for the Kimberley Pilbara region.

The event provided an additional cause for celebration as Master Builders celebrated 17 years of the Kimberley Pilbara awards being held in Broome.

Master Builders Regional Manager, Dianne Gilleland said the awards were a great success.

“Although entries were less than usual this year due to the downturn in the local and state economy, the quality of workmanship was as high as ever. This year we received entries from across the region including Kununurra, Exmouth, Derby, Karratha, Onslow and Broome.

“There is no higher recognition across the state for builders to be recognised amongst their peers, and it was a wonderful way to celebrate our 17-year milestone,” Mrs Gilleland said.

The winner of the 2018 Bankwest Best Regional Project was Doric Contractors Pty Ltd for the Red Earth Arts Precinct in Karratha. The Precinct is a 450-seat contemporary performing arts centre and community hub, with an outdoor event space, library, roof top terrace and car park.

Chief Regional Judge, Charlie Baggetta noted the centre as “a striking project, well designed, well-constructed and a display of excellence in workmanship.”

“The completed project is a credit to Doric Contractors Pty Ltd. The project more than satisfied the judges with the criteria of the judging process, form and function, innovation, value for money, project management, site management and I am sure customer satisfaction,” Mr Baggetta said.

Broome Builders took out the award for 2018 Roebuck Estate Best Country Home this year, for their home on Sands Street, Cable Beach. The use of quality natural materials, quality finishes and statement design elements, has brought cosmopolitan living to a semi-rural North Cable Beach retreat.

Broome Builders also took out Excellence in Cabinet Making, Best Appointed Kitchen, Excellence in Carpentry and Excellence in Painting Awards for the magnificent Cable Beach project.
